3.22.17 Prayer Prompt:  Your Attitude

You know the verse about a speck in one eye and a log in your own?? It’s found in Matthew 7:3 and says, “Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?” This verse references hypocrites who judge others without acknowledging their own sin. But I’ve recently found another way to look at it.

After several months of a steady stream of frustration, I was praying the Lord would fix things. But I felt the Holy Spirit tell me that fixing things started with fixing me! I was the biggest part of the problem with a chip on my shoulder and a negative attitude. He was right. The Holy Spirit has been working on my heart and helping me adjust my own point of view.

Amazingly, through the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, my frustrations have largely melted away! The root system of my perceived problems weren’t because of anyone else… they were because of me. I planted them there. And the Holy Spirit is helping me weed the garden!

Is there something going on in your life that is causing you anger and ongoing frustration? Before you look to the outside sources, pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal to you if YOU are playing a part… and if He reveals you are, ask Him to help you adjust your own attitude.
NOTE: Feel free to comment, but these prayer prompts are meant to be between you and God. Matthew 6:6 — But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
