7.26.17 Prayer Prompt: Filtered & Unfiltered

PRAYER PROMPT ••• From our coffee makers to our camera lenses, it seems everything is filtered.

Filtering isn’t a bad thing; by definition, it either separates or removes impurities or unwanted components.

How often are we filtering ourselves?

On one hand – we should filter our lives, but only through the filter of God’s word, working to become more like Jesus.

But what about the times when we filter ourselves to hide or overcompensate for something?

When we are less authentic than we should be.

Times when we plaster on a smile and hide a deep sadness from the world.

Or maybe when we pretend we enjoy an activity we have no interest in just to impress a new person in our lives.

1 Samuel 16:7 says, “But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.'”

In other words – you may be able to fake it to the world, but you can’t show a filtered version of yourself to Christ.

He knows your heart even better than you do.

In this particular verse, David was chosen over his more likely brothers to be the future king of Israel.

God saw past any filters.

It didn’t matter how he looked; It was David’s heart that mattered.

We are created to be unique.

Putting on a filter only disguises the being God designed us to be.

Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

Today, as you pray, ask Jesus to help you remove filters that are keeping you from being the you He intended you to be.

Ask Him to help you filter your life through the word of God so you’re not worried about the filters expected by the world.
